God's Gift Economy
Jeff Locke
In the U.S., we say things like "time is money;" we "spend energy;" we remind each other that "talk is cheap" and "there's no such thing as a free lunch." The way we talk, the way we make sense of the world is steeped in the language of money and markets. This matters for our spiritual formation: when the market sets the terms of our thinking, authentic connection with God and others becomes difficult to imagine.
Jesus came to set us free and give us life abundantly. Rather than think in transactional terms, he invites us by grace to participate in his divine gift economy. Come discover a way of being in the world that runs on abundance instead of scarcity, on belonging instead of competition, and on the generous love of the God who gave himself for us.
