Elder Candidate Vote: Chi Choy

Over the past season, our elder candidate, Chi Choy, went through our elder training, was carefully evaluated, had an opportunity to engage our congregation through a meet and greet, and was prayerfully considered by our current leadership. We are grateful for the time and discernment that have gone into this step and now invite our church members to participate in the next part of the process.

As a congregation, we are asking you to prayerfully affirm or not affirm this candidate to serve as an Elder of our church. Thank you for taking this responsibility seriously and for continuing to pray for our church as we seek faithful, humble leadership.

From,
The Elder Team

Please note: Voting will close on February 22. Only votes from active members will be counted. (An active member is a member who has attended at least two Member’s Gatherings, or has become a new member in 2025).

About Chi:

Chi became a believer when he started coming to Sunset Church in 1998, having asked a friend who had recently started going to the church if Chi could join him for a visit. Growing up as an atheist and never having gone to church before, except for only a month or so as a child, Chi was suspicious and resistant at first. But slowly, God worked in his heart to make him realize that there are things in life more important than having a steady job or just making money.

Once he professed his belief in Jesus and His redeeming work, his entire perspective of the world changed. Because of his work background in risk assessments and his own conversion from a hardcore atheist, he is sensitive to people with beliefs that are different from his own and works to understand them before judging them.

He met his wife, Beverly, at Sunset Church. They have been married for over 20 years. They have served in many ministries as a couple and individually in music ministry, singles ministry, Sunday School ministry, men’s fellowship, and Community Groups ministry. He is blessed with two wonderful children. His greatest joy is in discovering and sharing God’s revelation of His truth and love with those around him.
